15th Annual Going the Distance

September 21, 2024

This annual bike ride raises much needed funds to support the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro. The road rides are 40, 60, or 75 miles in distance, supported by 2 rest areas (Turners Falls and Greenfield) as well as a support vehicle. Lunch is provided. The ride travels down Route 142 through Vernon and enters Massachusetts. From there a beautiful ride to the first rest stop in Turners Falls. The ride continues through country roads , with the second rest stop along the Green River in Greenfield, MA where lunch is provided. The final leg of the ride brings you back to the club, where a celebration awaits!

We also have new gravel routes available this year. The 26.8 mile and 38.7 mile Graveand Gravel Plus routes through Dummerston and Putney offer outstanding riding on quiet New England back roads! With both rides starting and ending at the idyllic Rt. 30 covered bridge riders will immediately be immersed in a quintessential gravel ride.

The 38.7 mile Gravel Plus ride is not only the longer of the two offerings, but the tougher as well. With nearly 5,000 ft. of climbing (and descending!) over all possible terrain (Class IV roads, abandoned roads and single track…as well as loads of beautiful quiet back roads) this ride will challenge the strongest of riders. But don’t get too scared — it is all rideable on a good gravel bike. We recommend 35mm tires or larger.

The 26.8 mile Gravel ride offers much the same as the longer route, but it is shorter, has less climbing and there are no technical Class IV roads, abandoned roads and single track. If you have a bike with 35mm or larger tires suitable for quiet, beautiful tree lined back roads you are properly equipped. Just bring the lungs and legs to ride the mileage with nearly 2,975 ft. of elevation — some hard but satisfying climbs (You did it!) and the always fun descents — cruising down the most wonderful roads imaginable.  Then the Gravel ride is for you!

E-bikes? Sure, bring the motor…we’re not snobs! There will be plenty of riders probably wishing they had your e-bike…

Whether you see these rides as a piece of cake or you have doubts you can handle it, there will be support vehicles and a rest stop at Putney School with lunch and “carbs to carry” to fuel you and assist you.
After the ride take a dip in the West River to cool off and then head to NEYT on Flat Street for an awesome After Party!

This fundraiser allows the club doors to remain open for all youth in our community, regardless of their ability to pay. No one is turned away from summer camp, after school programming, or teen club activities. We are committed to serving the most vulnerable in our community and cannot do it without the support of you! Our riders and donors have a huge impact on the club’s ability to provide a safe, supportive, and fun environment for every kid in our community.

We ask each rider to commit to raising at least $300. Riders that raise over $1,000 receive a gift card to one of the local bike shops. Each registered rider receives their own personal fundraising page that they can customize and send out to their network.

We can’t do it without you!
